Selfridges Festival of Imagination

This week Selfridge’s, Exchange Square, launched the Festival of Imagination.

Devised by Selfridges’ Creative Director Alannah Weston, the Festival of Imagination is celebrating two of Harry Gordon Selfridge’s most cherished mantras: “Develop imagination, throw away routine” and “Imagination is the mother of originality, we encourage imagination in every way possible.”

In Manchester this consists of a series of pop-up events curated by Maria Balshaw, director of the Whitworth Art Gallery and Manchester City Galleries. There are various talks taking place from some of the UK’s most celebrated artists, writers and academics plus lunchtime workshops focused on unlocking your creative powers. Speaker include Jeanette Winterson, Helen Storey, Jeremy Deller, Mary Anne Hobbs and Maxine Peake. There is also be a pop up art exhibition showcasing some of the greatest treasures from the Whitworth’s collection including the works of Picasso and Tracy Emin.

So far attendees and coverage has included Manchester Evening News, Emerald Street, Manchester Confidential, City Life Extra, Living Edge Magazine and a number of Northwest based bloggers.
