The Brief
With Tate Liverpool temporarily closed for refurbishment and with vacant units available inside Metquarter, we were tasked with utilising the available space in the centre to host impactful pop ups to champion creativity and culture within the city of Liverpool and to drive footfall into Metquarter during the summer period.
The Response
After initial meetings, we invited Tate to the centre and offered the team a number of available spaces to host a pop up. We worked closely with the team to bring ‘The Thread That Binds Us’ exhibition into the centre and with the help of the on-site team we prepared the unit, ensuring the exhibition had everything it needed to shine. From providing the space to amplifying its reach through social media, press coverage and an unforgettable launch event, we were committed to celebrating the young talent behind it.
The exhibition showcased striking fashion photography featuring designs made by the young people themselves. Their work reflected personal stories of community, empowerment and creative expression.
We also liaised with Metquarter tenant and luxury brand retailer CRICKET, who played a key role in bringing the exhibition to life by providing clothing and styling support during the photoshoot. Cricket’s contribution helped turn the young designers’ visions into reality, creating breathtaking portraits that were proudly displayed alongside their reflections on identity and community.
The Results
Created in partnership with Tate Liverpool, The Tiber Young Producers, CRICKET and YETI Creative, the results for this project were magnificent, with the exhibition winning this year's award for Best Community Cohesion Project at the Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards.
Coverage was placed across regional, national and broadcast media with a total of 28 pieces of coverage and a reach of over 739 million. Coverage highlights included interview pieces on BBC Northwest Tonight and ITV Granada Reports as well as regional coverage on BBC Merseyside, Liverpool Echo and The Guide.
Stef Bradley, Producer at Tate, said “We loved every minute of this partnership and working with Metquarter. We were made to feel so welcome and were so well supported by every staff member we worked with. Everything was made really easy and we were so grateful for the fantastic support from everyone working across the teams and for allowing the young people to have freedom to paint on walls and windows and really be creative. Also, for the generosity with the beautiful window vinyls and huge poster in the front of the centre. The young people said that they couldn’t have imagined that they would be able to do something so visible in the city centre and this really meant a lot to them and is an experience they won’t soon forget. I really appreciate everything that you have done to make this such a special project and would love a future collaboration with this fantastic team.”
